Notifications are the most easily ignored email a product sends, and the ignoring is usually earned. Too many, too undifferentiated, too often about things the reader did not need to know at that moment.
The 25 designs in this collection are built to be worth the interruption.
These are two different templates and using one for the other is the core mistake.
A single-event alert carries one thing that matters now. It is short, states the event in the first line, and offers one action. Visual weight is justified because the reader needs to notice.
A digest carries many things that individually did not warrant a send. It is scannable, grouped, capped, and deliberately calmer.
An urgent alert delivered in the digest layout gets missed. A routine event delivered in the alert layout trains the reader to stop noticing alerts.
The patterns that hold up as item counts vary:
An acknowledgement exists to stop the reader wondering, which means it needs three things: what you received, a reference if there is one, and what happens next with a timeframe.
The timeframe is the part usually missing, and it is the part that prevents the chasing email. It costs a line.
Notification email should look like the plainest thing you send. It is read quickly, often on a phone, usually mid-task. That means left-aligned text, one accent colour reserved for the action, a small amount of it, and no decorative imagery competing with the fact.
Two separate templates ship here — a single-event alert and a digest — because using one for the other is the core mistake. Checks: does the first line state the event, is there one action, does a digest layout survive at one item and at twenty, and does an acknowledgement say what happens next and by when.
